Once you have a Web host you will be given two different name servers, a
primary one and a secondary one. You will need to change the name servers listed
for your domain to those name servers. You can do this through your domain
management page using the instructions below.
Please use these instructions to change your name servers:
- Log into your account.
- Click on "Domain List."
- Click on the domain for which you wish to change the name servers.
- Click on "Update Name Servers."
- Type in the name of the first name server, and then click on the
"Add" button. Do this for each name server. Please be sure to enter the names of
the name servers and NOT the IP addresses. Name server names will typically be
something like ns1.nameserver.com. You can remove an entered name server by
clicking on the "remove" link next to each name server.
- When you have finished entering the name servers, please enter the
email address to which you would like confirmation sent (if any), and then be
sure to click on the "Continue" button.
- Now please wait up to 72 hours for the change to propagate. Please
make sure that the name servers that you are entering are valid, otherwise our
system will reject your changes. To check the validity of a name server, please
visit www.verisign-grs.com and do a
name server Whois search. If your name server is valid, it will return a result
with an IP address. If not, then you need to check your spelling or check with
the person that provided you with the server and try your search again. Once you
have found a valid server than you can update that from within your account.
WHAT ARE NAME SERVERS?
Some webmasters becomes a hoster, as a reseller, and simply don't know that
it is necessary to have his own DNS, for more status with this private label. In
order to have your own nameserver, as NS1.MYNAME.COM you have in first to
register a domain name. This domain name can at the same time to be used as a
web address for your website Master Account, as http://myname.com , and for to be the name of your
nameservers, as NS0.MYNAME.COM, NS1.MYNAME.COM, NS2.MYNAME.COM etc. The most
common mode for this registration is you to obtain two IP adresses from your ISP
and use it to register two nameservers (NS1 and NS2). You have to register
nameservers in the same Registrar where you registered your domain name. If
you are interested in become a reseller we recommend our merchant
partner Brain Hosting, Inc., because it offers a fine support: http://www.brainhosting.com
.
A name server is a computer that has the capability to translate, or resolve,
the domain names we see and use in our browser windows into IP numbers.
Computers read Internet addresses through a series of numbers called Internet
Protocol (IP) numbers. Because these numbers would be difficult for people to
remember, user-friendly Internet addresses were developed using combinations of
words and numbers. Name servers are what interpret the URLs into IP addresses.
The IP addresses of the name servers have to be registered at the NSI Registry
so that every name server can be assigned a unique IP address. If you are unsure
as to which name servers to use or do not have a Web host yet you can use
ns1.nameresolve.com and ns2.nameresolve.com at no extra cost to you.
IMPORTANT NOTE: To check the validity of a name server, you may visit www.verisign-grs.com to do a name server
whois search
HOW DO I REGISTER MY NAME SERVERS?
If you would like to register your name servers, you will first need to get
the two IP addresses from your ISP, and then follow these instructions.
- Please log into your account and click on "Domain List".
- Click on the name of the domain.
- Click on the "Register Name Server" link at the bottom of the
screen.
- You are then prompted to add the first part of the name server
extension. We strongly suggest that you use ns1 and ns2 as the beginning
extensions. The rest of the name server appears by default as your domain name.
Please DO NOT enter www for the beginning extension for your name server.
- Enter the IP address in the text boxes directly below the name
server name, EXACTLY as the ISP has given them to you.
- Click on the "Update" button, and your name server is registered.
You can then register the second name server.
NOTE: IP addresses must be unique to each name server. If an IP address is
already registered to another name server then the changes will not take
place.
HOW CAN I CHANGE THE IP ADDRESS OF THE NAME SERVERS I HAVE REGISTERED?
To modifying the IP Address of a Name Server please log into your account
and follow these instructions:

I HAVE CHANGED MY NAME SERVERS. WHAT HAPPENS NOW, AND HOW LONG DO I NEED TO
WAIT?
Once you change name servers in your account, the Registrar update our
database within an hour and send the changes to the global registry. The global
registry then updates their database within 24 hours of the submission. We have
no way to speed this up as this is done through the registry on their time
schedule.
Once their update is done, it is up to each individual ISP to update their
own zone files based on the global registry's records. Once their update is
complete your domain will then start to resolve.
Usually, this process takes less than 72 hours. Your domain will generally
start resolving closer to 48 hours. Sometimes, however, this process will take
the full 72 hours.
Please make sure the name servers you are trying to use are valid, otherwise
your name servers cannot be changed. To check the validity of a name server, you
may visit www.verisign-grs.com to do
a name server whois search. If the name server is valid, it will return a result
with an IP address. If it is not, then please confirm that the spelling is
correct, and try your search again. Once you have found a valid server, you will
be able to change your name servers from within your account. Also, if you have
LOCKED your domain for security, you will not be able to make changes to the
name servers. You will need to have the domain unlocked before these changes can
be made.
